Blues Send Message, Even Series

The Blues returned in Game 2. Welcome back, boys. In clobbering the San Jose Sharks for a 3-0 victory that evened their first-round Western Conference playoff series at 1-1, the Blues played like the spirited, tenacious unit that defied expectations to rise to the elite level of the NHL.

"I was proud of the way we fought back," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "And if we didn’t, this was going to be a short series."

The Blues’ challenge, of course, will be to make it last throughout the remainder of a best-of-seven series that’s starting to boil.

A standing-room sellout crowd at Scottrade Center shook the building with resounding approval, giving the Blues a happy send-off to San Jose for Games 3 and 4. The Blues will travel with renewed optimism.

All it took was a few lineup tweaks by Hitch, a recommitment to playing hard every minute, a combined shutout by Jaroslav Halak and emergency reliever Brian Elliott, a little luck, and a beautiful set-up by T.J. Oshie on a vital goal scored by captain David Backes.
