The leading score at the Masters did not change Friday. Cold weather in the morning, combined with muddy balls and steady winds all day, prevented anyone in the field from going low. Lee Westwood’s five-under-par total led after Thursday’s first round, and five under par still led Friday night, albeit with new owners: Jason Dufner and the seemingly ageless Fred Couples.

“A little bizarre,” Couples said, about seeing his name where it was on the leaderboard. Couples has lost almost none of his youthful length off the tee and is playing excellent golf. He won two weeks ago on the Champions Tour. But his mental and physical stamina will be tested on the weekend. Last year he finished 36 holes with an identical score, but shot one over par in the last two rounds and finished in a tie for 15th.
