The winner of Saturday night's LSU-Auburn game, though, needs to win to just keep breathing in the West behind undefeated Alabama (7-0, 4-0 SEC), which is ranked No. 2 in the Bowl Championship Series standings and is the defending West champion.
No. 9 LSU (5-1, 3-1 SEC) and Auburn (5-2, 2-2) meet at 6:30 on ESPN2 in Tiger Stadium after combining to lose their last three games and take most of the luster off what has been a premier SEC clash.
LSU is trying to solve its worst offense this decade. It has been ranked No. 12 in total offense in the SEC for most of the season and is 112th in the nation out of 120 upper division schools with 295 yards a game.
